Purpose: To evaluate the value of computer-aided detection system (CAD) of full-field digital mammography through the subjective opinions of radiologists who have used CAD and the satisfaction survey.
Materials and Methods: 100 images were retrospectively chosen among the mammography performed between June 2008 and June 2010. 30 masses (benign 15, malignancy 15) and 30 microcalcifications (benign 15, malignancy 15) were included. These images of mammography were initially categorized by 7 specialists and 15 residents according to ACR-BIRADS without CAD and they were categorized again in at least one week with CAD. The residents had one month training for breast imaging reporting and evaluation survey was done the prior to the training and the post to the training. Afterwards, the sensitivity, specificity and reporting time of the radiologists and their subjective opinions and satisfaction level of CAD was evaluated through the survey.
Results: The sensitivities and specificities prior to the use of CAD and post to the use of CAD were not significantly different and the reporting time was reduced when CAD was used. General opinions from both specialists and residents were that CAD aided the reporting and it identified the near miss lesions and shortened the reporting time.
Conclusion: Radiologists who often reports the results of mammography think that CAD aids the reading of mammography since it accelerates the speed of the reporting and increases the quality of the reading.
